The Daily Polish
I’m convinced that Essie Turquoise & Caicos is one of their bestsellers because everyone who owns it loves it. This is what my unscientific research shows, anyway.
I bedazzled it up with a coat of Space Girl from Essence, a tiny pink glitter that adds just a smidge of fun times.

Cheery nail polish colours are like fresh flowers for your fingertips. That don’t smell pretty. Or attract bees.
Butter London is one of my favourite brands for a few reasons. The formula is quite dreamy and the polishes have really fun names. Like Disco Biscuit. And Trout Pout. And Slapper. All of which I’m going to show you.
Butter London has been a tricky brand to find until recently. It’s now available on Nail Polish Canada. Hooray! You can even enter to win the entire spring collection here. Do it. Do it now.

Disco Biscuit. A very sheer hot pink with tiny blue sparkles. I used two coats over an opaque hot pink so it would show up better.

Trout Pout. This peach colour is very hot for spring. I've tried a few already but this one is definitely my favourite. It's very bright and cheerful.

Slapper. A really intense and gorgeous teal blue. I added some mini silver dots simply because I was in the mood.
New favourite product: Coconut oil
Good morrow fancy readers. I’ve been a bit caught up in the big move of 2012. I was at the manfriend’s the past two weekends for birthday parties and job interviews and car shopping and new floor buying and other activities related to packing up and moving to Ontario. Oh, and plus I work full-time.
Today I have a beauty secret for you. As you may be aware, I do my nails quite often. For argument’s sake, let’s just say I do them everyday. Let’s just say. All that polish remover is pretty drying. As a result, I have hand lotion at an arms reach at all times. Some of them are okay. Some of them aren’t.
Coconut oil, however, is a miraculous product. I bought it recently at a health food store with plans to cook with it. A pal had invited me over for dinner a few days before, and roasted some veggies in coconut oil and it was so tasty I had to copy her. Instead, I took a spoonful of the stuff when I got it home, rubbed it into my hands and put on some cotton gloves for 40 minutes. Ta dah! Softest hands ever.

I’ve declared an end to winter polish colours.
Well, not really. A girl needs all her colours disposable depending on her mood.
But I was really in the mood for bright colours last week so this is what I sported.
Greener is better: a word about eating for beauty
If you read Sometimes Icing in addition to this blog, you know that I don’t really care for New Year’s resolutions. And you also know that there is more to me than just nail polish and smelly body lotions. But when a girlfriend (also my hairstylist) was so excited about a new book she was reading about health and beauty, I couldn’t help but be intrigued. And you know, it’s January.
I picked up a copy of The Beauty Detox Solution and I’ve been changed ever since. I really don’t believe in miracle dieting or quick-fix solutions to getting in shape. I’m lucky I have pretty good genes and I wasn’t particularly looking to lose weight, but if anything, reading this book has just made me aware of what we put in our bodies and why we feel the way we do after we eat certain things. Like, barfy. Which I often feel.
Her modus operandi is basically to eat more fresh fruits and vegetables, especially the leafy green ones, and to eliminate dairy and meat. The book is a combination of information based on scientific studies and information she’s gathered from different parts of the world. And a lot of it just makes sense. I can’t say I’m following her program word for word, that’s not really my deal, but I am definitely making changes that have left me feeling less bloated, tired and barfy. I also suffer from migraines, and I have yet to find a drug that really helps, so if any of the changes I’ve made help, I’m all for it.
In the spirit of putting only good-for-you things in your body, I leave you with this adorable lesson in organic eating. Which doesn’t want to embed in this post. Sorry about that annoyance.

The Daily Polish
With all the new spring polishes starting to make appearances on the blogosphere, I was inspired to do something a little less wintry with my nails.
Revlon Whimsical is a very sheer blue with pink and blue sparkles. I used two coats of Essie Mint Candy Apple to make an opaque base, then covered it with two coats of the Revlon. Kind of love it.
Check out the spring 2012 collection from Essie. I can already predict that that pistachio colour is going to be huge. Just remember. You heard it here first.
