Bead lady: The Africa Tee

I kind of love Jessi Cruickshank. Maybe because she reminds me of me. Or maybe because her hair is so gorgeous. It’s hard to say.

For real. She’s funny. Follow her on Twitter.

Either way, I’m kind of loving one of her latest projects. A collaboration with the Me to We organization called the Africa Tee. Last summer she traveled to Kenya to live with a Maasai family and this t-shirt is inspired by the intricate beadwork the family made to support themselves.

It comes in black and white and proceeds from the sale of her design will help families in Kenya find sustainable means to support themselves.

I’m kind of feeling the black one. With black skinny jeans. And some colourful earrings. You?

Millionaire weekend: Hotel Le Germain

Posted by on May 17, 2011 in House & home, Travel | 3 comments

A friend from Toronto came for a visit this past weekend.

That’s right. A “friend”.

We thought it’d be fun to make it into a mini vacation. So we stayed at Le Germain right here in Montreal for two nights.

We watched movies, ordered room service and mostly lied around. Obviously I was far too busy to take pictures so you’ll have to settle for this professional one instead.

Our room was sort of small, but it had all the details that someone of my fanciness might require.

The most impressive part of the whole room? The glasses in the bathroom had our room number on them.

Apparently you can buy them. I think I’d choose the ones with the number of my loft on them. Because it’s practically a fancy requirement to drink your orange juice out of personalized glasses. Everyone knows that.

We also had:

  • A super comfy bed.
  • Genevieve Grandbois chocolates and a lovely handwritten note from the concierge.
  • A closet we didn’t use, but that lights up when you open it.
  • A fancy Bang & Olufsen phone that I tried to call for room service on but couldn’t figure it out. My friend had no idea what Bang & Olufsen was so he didn’t appreciate this one as much.
  • A breakfast of croissants, fruit, pain perdu and maple syrup on everything.
  • A shower that was as big as my entire loft. I could have moved in.
The staff was super nice and it was fun to pretend to live downtown for the weekend and take cabs everywhere. If only my millionaire weekend could be my millionaire life. Sigh.

More Dior: Lip Experts Duo

Posted by on Apr 21, 2011 in Makeup, Travel | 0 comments

When you travel to international destinations, shopping at the duty-free is a must. When I went to Los Angeles in December, the producer from the agency pointed out this super cool Dior lip balm that goes on clear, but tints everyone’s lips a different shade of pink. Like a mood ring for your lips.

Obviously I had to have it this time around. And it came in a special “collection voyage.” That’s French. For travel collection. In case you didn’t know.

And it included not only the Color Reviver Balm, but a gloss too. The lip balm has SPF 10 in it and I can concur that it stays put for a long time. The Collagen Activ Lipgloss claims to have a plumping effect and apparently restructures the contours of your lips. You can wear it alone, under your regular gloss for more shine, or overtop the Color Reviver Balm.

I’m not sure what it really does, but it makes your lips tingle and has just the right amount of shine. And the packaging? Love it.

And let’s be honest here, this perfect pink shade compliments my tan and freckly skin.

Sometimes Panamá: Nikki Beach Playa Blanca

Posted by on Apr 20, 2011 in Travel | 2 comments

Last week, I took off to Panamá with my sister for some much needed beach and pool time.

It was a fantastic trip. We met some nice people, and basically laughed our faces off the entire week and thought about nothing other than pool-eat-pool.

Our resort was a newly-opened 5-star resort and it was simply divine. There were no cheesy activities or lame rules. The food was fantastic, the amenities were just what we needed and the staff was delightful.

Of course, it doesn’t hurt that I speak Spanish. It’s the easiest way to become BFFs with the waiters who are bringing you piña coladas in the pool.

Greek un-tragedy: yoga retreat in Santorini

Greek un-tragedy: yoga retreat in Santorini

I joined The Mansfield gym about a month ago and it’s become my home away from home. I’m always there. Especially in the yoga room. I go to yoga at least three times a week, if not four or five and I’ve become one of those people who tries to convince all her friends that the answer to everything is on the yoga mat.

I know. I’m such a cliché.

So when my friend Lise told me about this yoga retreat to Santorini, Greece I almost fainted. Well, not really. But I did something equally dramatic to show my extreme excitement at such a trip. Bram, who’s leading the trip, works at the Luna Yoga Centre in Old Montreal.

You do yoga every morning for 90 minutes, and then you galavant around the island. And that’s it. For 10 days. In September. With my friend Lise. Galavanting. Everyday. At this hotel.

So awesome. And so fancy.
